What the Library Means To Roy Moye III

For Roy Moye III, the Wichita Public Library is where ambition finds its wings.

Roy Moye III is a superfan of the Wichita Public Library. “I live in an apartment, but I do have the “Love Your Library” sign outside my door,” said Roy. “I don’t have a yard, but it’s there!”

“There’s just so many important things that happen here at the Library,” said Roy. “It’s such a resource for the community to gain access to things that maybe they don’t have.”

As an aerospace engineer, independent music artist, and founder of STEMusic LLC, Roy traces his path back to an early fascination with airplanes—one that pushed him to dive into books and pursue courses in school to learn more about the aviation industry.

Growing up in Missouri, Roy visited the Raytown Public Library with his mom and siblings, checking out airplane books until he had read them all. Without a computer at home until 2006, Roy used the Library’s internet access to look up airplane pictures and videos.

Roy earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering with a minor in mathematics at Wichita State University. He went on to work at Spirit AeroSystems—first as a Structural Design Engineer and then as a Talent Acquisition Specialist.

Alongside Roy’s passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), he maintained a lifelong love of music and singing, as well as a deep commitment to serving young people. In the fall of 2019, he brought these passions together and launched his company, STEMusic.

Roy is grateful the Advanced Learning Library gave him space to write his company’s business plan and booked his first library show, giving him the confidence to take STEMusic concerts across Kansas and beyond—regionally and nationally.

Roy is committed to helping kids unlock their potential through reading and discovery. “I’m Black, Puerto Rican, and Mexican,” he says. “When I was working at Spirit AeroSystems as the only person of color in a room of 40 engineers, I asked myself: how do I change this? It’s not that kids can’t do it—it’s just a lack of exposure to things they know nothing about.” Seeing that need, he wanted to make a difference.

Roy says his cup is full as he realizes he’s exactly where he’s meant to be, with his STEMusic schedule just as full as he continues bringing his high-energy, inspiring STEM programs to children and families at libraries. His new album STEMusic Takes Flight was released in the summer of 2026.
